Hello -

I am totally new to real estate investing! In fact, I am contemplating hiring a consultant because I don't understand all the ins and outs of investing. If someone could please tell me what consultants are charging these days, I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to determine whether or not the price this consultant wants to charge me is reasonable.

I'm not sure about consultant fees... I think they vary in different states, I'd call around and see what other consultants are charging to get a better idea whether your getting a good deal or not.

As for using a consultant, I wouldn't personally. But that's just me. I like knowing what everything means, and how its supposed to go. I don't trust just anyone with my financial decisions. And real estate investing is definitely a finance decision, a real big one.

I don't know what kind of investing you're looking into, so some more details would be helpful. I personally don't think a consultant is necessary for someone just starting out. Presumably you won't be getting into deals so large that you need that kind of advice. At least, I wouldn't start out with a huge deal.

If you can give some more details about what kind of investing you want (commercial? residential? buy and hold? rent? sell?) then you'll likely get some relevant advice from the experienced folks on this board.
