Lightbulb Texas voters will vote on a volatile property rights issue

UNDATED Texas voters on Tuesday will decide on a constitutional amendment designed to clarify a volatile property rights issue.

Proposition Eight would force Texas to relinquish land claims to more than 18-hundred landowners who've long paid property taxes in Smith and Upshur counties.

If Prop Eight fails, ownership rights could be determined in court -- a lengthy process that landowners fear. In the end, landowners could be required to repurchase land from the state.
