Breaking the Lease I live in a home of a family friend, while it was initially supposed to only be for a few months it has turned into three years next month. Halfway through this he decided to let his son move into the downstairs which is used by the grandfather for vacation in the summers. We were given no warning, or asked about it, and he decided how much his son should have to pay of the bills, which have to be split as we share utilities. We haven't fussed too much as we pay below average rent, but its getting worse. What is our recourse? He doesn't want to sign a new lease, as we've asked because his son "isn't staying" although its been a year the first time, then he came back after his grandfather left and shows no sign of leaving anytime soon. Can we insist on separate utilities or a new lease?
